How to upload videos
A few minutes per batch
Uploads go one channel at a time. Put a channel's videos in one folder, add a text file next to each video for its title and caption, and pick the folder - Postline queues them all in order and posts them on the channel's schedule.
Lay out the folder
One folder per channel. Each video sits next to a text file with the same name.
- 1
Make a folder for the channel, e.g.
Cooking Channel. - 2
Put the videos in it:
01 pasta.mp4,02 tacos.mp4,03 soup.mp4. Videos can be .mp4, .mov, .m4v or .webm, up to 300 MB each. - 3
Next to each video add a text file with the same name:
01 pasta.txtgoes with01 pasta.mp4.No text file is fine - the title is made from the file name and you can type the caption before uploading.
- 4
Number the names (
01,02,03...). Postline queues them in name order, so the numbers are the posting order.
What goes in the text file
- 1
Line 1 is the title (up to 100 characters), e.g.
Easy 10-minute pasta. - 2
Every line below it is the caption - several lines and blank lines are fine, e.g.
Dinner ready in 10 minutes 🍝then#pasta #easyrecipes. - 3
Put #hashtags in the caption - they become the video's tags too. Captions are cut at 2,200 characters (Instagram's limit).
Upload
- 1
Open the channel → Upload → Pick a folder and choose the channel's folder. (Or drag the videos and text files in.)
- 2
Check the list: fix any title or caption right in the table. Untick a platform to skip it for this batch, or turn on Post now to send them out right away.
- 3
Click Upload and keep the tab open until every row shows done. The videos join the end of the channel's queue.
- 4
Postline posts the next video at each of the channel's time slots. Once a video is out on every platform its file is deleted from your storage.
If something goes wrong
- A row says “Upload failed” or “Network error”
- Click Upload again - only the rows that failed are sent again. Slow connections work, they just take longer; keep the tab open.
- The title came out as the file name
- The text file's name doesn't match the video's exactly (check spaces and the .txt ending), or it's empty. Fix the title in the table before uploading.
- “Set up video storage first”
- Connect a bucket in Settings → Video storage - see the Video storage guide.
- “Videos can be up to 300 MB”
- Export the video smaller (1080p is plenty for Shorts and Reels) and pick it again.
- Can I upload for several channels at once?
- Not yet - pick each channel's folder from that channel's Upload tab. Or send them from a script with the API (next guide).
